Secrets

We’ve all got secrets,
So what’s yours?
Mine is that I love doors,
I love shutting them
So no one can see,
And when I open them,
No one knows what happened before.
I can be on the fourth floor,
And I can shut the third door,
And then secrets will develop even more.

  1. I think this is a cool crazy secret.
Similar to that saying what happens behind closed doors stay behind closed doors.
Now I understand why many people close their room doors and leave you wondering what they are doing.
Another thing that's cool is you can enter one door and come out of another which can confuse someone.

    1. Wow. Ever heard of the saying "You never know what goes behind closed doors." I never thought of a door being so secrete but if you think of it that way, a door is what hides our most intimate moments! I love it !

  2. The first thing I noticed about this post was the amazing picture! The author of the poem loves to hide behind doors because it will hide secrets. When you look at the picture, however, you notice that you can see right through the door. It makes you wonder if we believe secrets are hidden, when really we are not really hiding anything at all.

  3. This is a very thought inducing piece. It stirs the brain and makes me want to know what the "secret" is. But, I also think thats the point, because everyone has their secrets and shuts the door to anyone wanting to know or getting too close to their secret. Closing doors, or shutting people out can sometimes be a bad thing but a good thing. You don't want to keep all your emotions to yourself but you also don't want people getting too close too fast. OR this poem can absolutely just be about doors which is awesome too :).

  4. I like that you took the word secret and took it to a whole new level that common people can relate to. I feel like this relates to people wanting their privacy and hiding behind closed doors. It also shows how there are multiple doors and floors and opportunities are endless. Most of all i enjoy that we have the power to our doors and we have the power to open and close them.

  5. I love this. I'm a bit of an introvert, so this is something that I can really relate to. It's easy to shut the doors on people; too easy. It's not always what's best though. We can all use an open door sometimes, with open arms on the other side. Nonetheless, very well-said. Really got me thinking.

  6. You would correct about everyone having secrets. I would just rather not share mine at this time. This poem is short and simple but yet so intriguing. Most secrets are kept behind closed doors. Once a person closes their door you are left to wonder what might be happening behind the mysterious door.

  7. Anonymous,
Although your topic is most interesting, are you sure you want to know other people's secrets? I love the honesty and depth to this poem. The idea of loving doors was a good play, and an even deeper truth. I'd really like to know what other plays you've got in your head; for example, using love of doors to say you love possibility and promiscuity. My secret? Well....I love animals more than humans, haha. Keep going with this poem--it's counterparts should make for an eye-catching story.

  8. there's something compelling about the unknown which makes this post so easy to relate to. Everyone has secrets and know that feeling of hiding certain aspects ones life. On the other hand everyone also knows the feeling of wanting to know something that perhaps you shouldn't know. we all have closed doors that hide secrets that no one is even aware of. - Carlos Garcia

  9. I am not sure if the poem is a metaphor, a conundrum or an exercise in contrast. The idea of hidden secrets and being unseen behind a door is juxtapose to the image of naked female figure; clinging to an opaque glass door panel. The woman appears to be in a desperate pose to exit the door. Yet she has her hands flat against the glass and not on the handle or lever of the door. There doesn't appear to be any effort to open it. Perhaps the writer is so passionate about doors she simply wants to take her time to give the door a hug before she leaves.

  10. When scrolling through the blog post I stopped at noticied the picture you added. It is such an interesting photo that made me want to stop and read your poem. I started reading the poem and realized why you added that photo, it was someone hiding behind the door from the secrets. I loved the meaning behind this poem. It makes me want to know what the secret is they want to hide from. Everyone has their secrets and sometimes the only thing you want to do with that secret is hide.

  11. Eye opening and impactful poem. I’ve meditated on this poem many times over the last month wondering, do I have any secret doors in my life? My conclusion is a resounding yes! After careful reflection, I’ve determined that although we close the door, thinking that the secret is safely hidden, the door is nothing more than a smoke screen of deception. I’m sure you’ve heard the saying, “ you are only as sick as your secrets.” If that is true, and I believe that it is, the way to wellness is confession. Once the secret is out, it is no longer a secret!
